Portugal Vs Czechoslovakia

Portugal Grab First Euro 2024 Point in Wet Draw

Pouring rain fails to dampen spirits in Guimarães

Own goal salvages draw for Selecao

Substitute Jan Hranan netted an own goal as the Czech Republic pegged back Portugal to earn a 1-1 draw in a rain-soaked Euro 2024 Group A opener in Guimarães on Sunday.

Rafal Stanek failed to hold onto Vitinha's low cross in what proved a costly error, as Hranan bundled the ball into his own net in the 79th minute.

The result leaves both teams with work to do to progress from the group, but will be seen as a vital point for Fernando Santos' side after their patchy build-up to the tournament.

The heavy rain made for a scrappy contest, with chances at a premium at the Estadio D. Afonso Henriques, where Portugal's Selecao had been widely expected to get off to a winning start.
